If anyone is around and has some spare time in the next few days, help is needed in the shop to make beds for IIT’s new Urban Farm. People will be working in M&M from 10-5 tomorrow (Wednesday 5/9) and Thursday morning as well. Installation should begin mid-day Thursday.
Contact Michael Marx (mmarx@hawk.iit.edu) or Courtney Fisher (cfisher4@hawk.iit.edu) if interested!
Congratulations to everyone on making it through to the end of the year. It was a great year for us and I hope we managed to get you prepared for the next stage of your program of study.
The Open House exhibit looked great. It’s always a surprise to see a whole year’s worth of work displayed. And though we only had space for a fraction of the best work we saw this year, I feel anyone could tell that we had a strong class this year. My compliments.
Last piece of business for the year is to break down the show. All of the work that is displayed in Crown Hall can be collected now. We only displayed a few original drawings so I’m not too concerned about the 11x17s, but we have a bunch of models on display. If you would like to keep any of your models that are in the show you will need to reclaim them before 16 May. On 16 May the building will be emptied and desks moved back in. All work renaming in Crown will be discarded. We will keep a few models for the archive but everything else will be taken to the dumpsters.
If you want your work you must collect it before 16 May. Sooner if you want to insure it doesn’t get knocked around.
Good luck, have a safe summer, and we’ll see you next year.
Tim

As everyone moves towards final reviews tomorrow and then final submission of the semester’s work on Friday I wanted to say first:
Be careful. I know a lot of people are making models these days so please take care as you work so that we don’t have any accidents. And remember that working on a quasi-finished model at your desk is particularly tricky. Be alert and think through each step to avoid any surprises.
Also, try to be careful as you just do normal life in the next few days since you are probably stressed, distracted and tired. Don’t try to do so much you can’t function safely when you’re driving or doing anything else. No project or course is worth an accident.
And to beat the clean-up drum a bit more: word has come from the office that our studio space will be cleared this Saturday morning. They will also empty all lockers then so the lockers are not a safe refuge for your stuff. In short, take your stuff all the way out of the building before 6:00 pm this Friday. Dumpsters or home. No other option at Crown Hall.
Very limited seating will be available, but if you visit the Chicago Architectural Club website you might just score a seat…
An interesting essay on some challenges facing graphic design programs. When I think of the passion many architecture students have for socially relevant design I breathe a big sigh of relief. Discuss…
